Lourde Matha Knanaya Catholic Church, Malakkallu
Our Story
The history of Lourdes Matha Church, Mallakallu is a story of deep faith, perseverance, and steady growth. Its roots trace back to A.D. 345, when Christianity first reached this region. In the early days, only a few families practiced the faith, facing many challenges, yet their unity and strong belief laid a firm foundation for the parish.
As the community grew, regular Holy Mass began in 1943, strengthening spiritual life and bringing people together. Major developments followed with proper pastoral leadership in 1956 and the construction of a new church in 1957, which became the center of worship and community life. Over the years, improvements in administration, expansion of facilities, and the steady increase of parish families marked continuous growth.
From the 1970s onwards, the parish witnessed significant progress through renovations, reconstruction, and the formation of various parish organizations. These groups encouraged active participation of youth, families, and the wider community. Alongside spiritual growth, the parish also contributed to education, charity, and social service, supporting the overall development of its members.
Entering the 21st century, the parish continued to grow with improved infrastructure, vibrant faith activities, and strong community bonds. Today, Lourdes Matha Church, Mallakallu stands as a symbol of faith, unity, and service—continuing to guide and inspire future generations.
